~ Anne Bogart Lucas Skjaret* (he/him) is an Appalachian stage director, producer, and educator. He specializes in reproaching and reinvigorating canonical texts, collaborating alongside playwrights, and devising ensemble-led storytelling. He is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at Concord University in Athens, West Virginia, where he is also the Program Director.

Lucas holds an M.F.A. in Directing from Baylor University. He also received his double B.A. in Theatre Arts and Scandinavian Studies from The University of North Dakota and studied at The University of Oslo, where he did research at The Ibsen Centre and collaborated with Teater Neuf. A proud Norwegian-American, he is deeply interested in the intersection between heritage and performance, as well as contemporary Nordic dramaturgy.
As an arts producer, he has a wide range of experience behind the scenes. Lucas was an artistic intern at The Playwrights’ Center under Jeremy Cohen before becoming the Artistic Administrator for The Public Theater of Minnesota, where he helped to produce large, outdoor Shakespeare productions in connection with Three Rivers Parks District. He was also a literary consultant at SteppingStone Theatre for Youth Development in addition to his producing work at Market Garden Theatre. Lucas has been a teaching artist at public schools as well as The Children’s Theatre Company, Young Artist Initiative, and SteppingStone Theater for Youth Development. He strives to connect empathic and rigorous pedagogy within all levels of artistic education and training.
His creative scholarship involves the development of new work, global theatre practices, Theatre for Young Audiences, rural and community-rooted theatre, and exploring the intersection of different artistic expressions with technology. Lucas has presented at ATHE, MATC, SETC, HERC, and CDC. His academic scholarship focuses on exploring performance as identity, Postdramatic theory, translation & adaptation theory, arts pedagogy, and Nordic dramatic literature. He has been published in the Texas Theatre Journal and the Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota Journal.
Lucas is an alumnus of the Directors Lab North in Toronto, Canada, Kennedy Center Directing Intensive, and Ghost River Theatre's Devising Intensive in Calgary, Canada. He has also studied actor pedagogy at The Stella Adler Studio in New York City as well as intimacy direction with Tonia Sina and Theatrical Intimacy Education.
